The Sparrow Story: Two songwriters sojourning in New York befriended the Doolittle’s, a couple with great physical disabilities. Although those disabilities made their life challenging in many ways, their bright hopefulness was astounding to the songwriters. When they asked the couple what their secret was, the response was simple, “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.” That song gripped the hearts and fired the imaginations of the songwriters. The gospel hymn, “His Eye Is On The Sparrow,” was the result and lives on as a perfect reminder that, however difficult our situation may be, God is watching over us.
